Last year I predicted that after the election we would be back to “tax and spend” and “promise and not deliver.”  The rich may get richer, the poor may get poorer, but politics never change.

Boy, was I wrong!  I didn’t see Donald Trump emerging from the rubble.  So this year, I’m not going to double down on my mistake.  I have no idea what our new president is up to.  But I can tell you that for the year 2016 Congress postponed tax changes that might have upset the voters, but Congress did not stop changes were already there, adjustments for inflation and increase of penalties for the Affordable Health Care Act.

However, the erosion of taxpayers’ rights will continue.  As money tightens and tax collections drop, Washington has turned to their own Special Forces, the IRS, to fill the gap without, of course, committing a smidgen of wrongdoing.  Also, they will encourage tax preparers to understand that they are unofficial government employees who must favor the government over their clients’ interests, or take up a more suitable line of work, such as license plate manufacturing.

The Federal Reserve panicked when they realized that they had run out of credit card companies to shift the national debt to. Facing a currency crisis they turned to the “Budget Balancers”.

The war dogs of collection, straining at their leash, cut lose on America’s taxpayers. There was no need for politicians to face an angry public by raising taxes, just call in the collectors. Why worry about the constitution when the justice department is otherwise engaged? The collectors go forth squeezing and seizing anyone and anything in their path. After all, under federal tax law you must prove your innocence. If you cannot the collectors have the right to take whatever you have democracy at work. If you think that the new administration will change things, they need: “The Budget Balancers” too. *

*Disclaimer: The above is pure fiction, and not possible in our land of the free.
